Mariners Edge The Tigers In 11

Four home runs were not enough for the Tigers as the Mariners earned a 7-6 win in 11 innings last night in Seattle. Robinson Cano drove in the winning run with a single against Ian Krol. Starter Kyle Ryan allowed five runs on six hits and was done after just 41 pitches. After the game, Ryan was optioned to Triple-A Toledo and Buck Farmer was recalled. Nick Castellanos, Marc Krauss, Alex Avila and Yoenis Cespedes hit home runs in the loss. Former Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson hit his first career grand slam for the Mariners. The Tigers, now 42-and-41, are seven games behind the Royals for first place in the American League Central. Kansas City swept a doubleheader Tuesday against Tampa Bay. Anibal Sanchez will get the start this afternoon in Seattle.
