Verlander Takes The Next Step In Returning

Justin Verlander has been cleared to resume a throwing program. Verlander hasn’t pitched in a game yet this season because of a right triceps strain. Manager Brad Ausmus said there’s no real set timetable on Verlander’s return. Pitching coach Jeff Jones said they would slowly increase Verlander’s work, adding 10 more pitches to the amount he throws. Verlander, who has been on the disabled list all season with what was first thought to be a right triceps cramp but has been identified as a right triceps strain, made about 50 throws in the outfield Wednesday.

Tigers Lose Late To The White Sox

The White Sox rallied to beat the Tigers 7-6 on Wednesday night at the Cell. Joba Chamberlain allowed six consecutive hits with two outs in the eighth, including a three-run game-tying home run by Melky Cabrera. Victor Martinez homered and knocked in four runs for Detroit. The hot night at the plate ended a streak of eight consecutive games without an RBI for Martinez. Starter Alfredo Simon worked five innings for Detroit, allowing three runs on five hits. The Tigers remain a half game behind the Royals for first place in the American League Central.

Shane Greene struggled once again in the Tigers 5-2 loss to the White Sox on Tuesday night in the Windy City. Greene threw 57 pitches, 26 for strikes. He was chased from the game after allowing four-runs in the third inning. On the night, Greene allowed five runs on five hits through two-plus innings of work. Through his first three starts, Greene had a 0.39 ERA in 23 innings. In his last three starts, Greene has a 16.36 ERA in 11 innings. After the game Greene said it’s baseball.

Greene And The Tigers Struggle VS Sox

The Tigers lost to the White Sox 5-2 last night in Chicago. The loss dropped Detroit a half game behind Kansas City for first place in the American League Central. Starter Shane Greene was chased from the game after allowing four-runs in the third inning. Greene allowed five runs on five hits through two-plus innings of work. Alex Avila hit a solo home run for the Tigers. Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, J.D. Martinez and Yoenis Cespedes went a combined 0 for 15 with a walk and five strikeouts. The Tigers will hand the ball to Alfredo Simon tonight against the White Sox. Chicago will counter with Chris Sale.
