NBC's reality weight-losing show 'The Biggest Loser' will feature a face very familiar to long-time Detroit Lions fans. Ex-quarterback Scott Mitchell will appear as a contestant this season.
As MLive shares, Mitchell has ballooned to 366 pounds since his playing days came to an end in 2001. According to Mitchell's 'Biggest Loser' bio, the 46-year-old has sleep apnea and high blood pressure. The Utah native said his biggest motivation for losing weight is avoiding the same fate as his father, who died earlier this year from obesity-related causes.
Mitchell was the starting quarterback for the Lions from 1994-98, though he was demoted to backup in his last season in favor of rookie Charlie Batch. Mitchell led the Lions to playoff appearances in '95 and '97.
Former Lions offensive lineman Damien Woody will also join 'The Biggest Loser' roster. Woody played for the Lions from 2004-07.
