It what could have been a serious disastrophe, a middle school basketball player is accused of spiking the opposing team's Gatorade with bleach.
FOX Carolina reports that a Gaffney Middle School student spiked the cooler of Granard Middle School during a game between the two teams. Cleveland Smith, whose son plays for Granard, said that his son's mouth was burning and his stomach hurt.
"He [Smith's son] said once he came out of the game and started putting it to his lips said his mouth started burning but no one knew anything then," Smith told FOX Carolina.
The suspect was eventually identified after allegedly bragging about the incident to friends. Cherokee County Schools Superintendent Dr. Quincie Moore said the offender and three other eighth-grade students who knew about the plan were punished.
Players from both schools drank from the same contaminated cooler. Luckily no one required medical attention.
